Carey Price has officially been traded by the Montreal Canadiens to the San Jose Sharks, the Chicago Blackhawks' divisional rival.

The Carey Price saga, and countless rumors, can finally be put to rest.
Kent Hughes, the Canadiens' general manager, has offloaded a whopping $10.5M.
We all knew it was coming; even his wife confirmed a trade was underway.

This is a very favorable trade for the Montreal Canadiens, who only gave up a 5th-round draft.
Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Friday that the team has acquired defenseman Gannon Laroque from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for goaltender Carey Price and a fifth-round pick in 2026.

Laroque, a 22-year-old right-handed blue-liner, played nine games in 2024-25 with the AHL's San Jose Barracuda, registering two points (1G, 1A). The Edmonton, AB native also took part in nine games in the ECHL with the Wichita Thunder.

Price featured in 712 NHL games during his career with the Canadiens, posting a 361-261-79 record, a .917 save percentage, a 2.51 goals against average, and 49 shutouts. The Anahim Lake, BC native owns the franchise records for the most games played by a goaltender and the most wins in Canadiens history. With 361 wins and 721 games played, he ranks 23rd and 29th, respectively, in NHL history.

The original reported cost to get rid of Price was a first round pick, and or a prospect.

"Trade:
To #sjsharks: Contract of G Carey Price, 2026 5th Round Pick
To #GoHabsGo: D Gannon Laroque
Montréal will (hopefully) not operate in LTIR to open season after paying Price's signing bonus. San Jose has cap floor flexibility if they end up trading away players later."
