Lukas Reichel's trip from Chicago to Vancouver after being traded by the Blackhawks went as worse as possible
Lukas Reichel's trip from Chicago to Vancouver after being traded away from the Blackhawks to the Canucks wasn't exactly a smooth ride.
Kyle Davidson, general manager of the Chicago Blackhawks, finally decided to ship away Lukas Reichel in return for a fourth-round pick in 2027 from the Vancouver Canucks.
The 23-year-old forward's time in Chicago wasn't all smooth sailing since he was drafted in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft.
Reichel struggled to play with consistency in his four seasons within the Blackhawks organization due to injuries and stints in the American Hockey League.
After 176 games, the forward tallied 58 points, including 22 goals.
But his departure from the Hawks organization wasn't smooth either, with many complications during his journey to Vancouver.
Lukas Reichel's Complicated Trip To Vancouver
Indeed, it started with mechanical issues on the plane forcing him to change planes, before further issues forced the flight company to cancel his flight.
That night, he slept at the airport before finally being able to leave.
He arrived in Vancouver around 10:45 a.m., met his coaches at 4 p.m., and played his first game at seven.
In addition, the rental car company he had booked closed an hour before he got there.
Here are the full details:
"I was fortunate to see him play in Berlin in his draft year, and I appreciated his competitiveness, his skill set, and his ability to skate.
Over time, you've been waiting to see if this guy would be able to take it to the next level and establish himself as an NHL player.
It's been like for most of the young players, a little bit of an up and down, until you establish yourself. But you can see the skill set; you can see the speed in his game.
Obviously, we liked him as a person and character too, so we're excited to get him in here and continue to work with him.
I think it's our job as an organization, with our coaches and the development staff we have, to help him take his game to the next level. He's still young, so I believe there is more to come."
In two games so far with the Canucks, Reichel hasn't scored a point and has a -3 +/-.
