It is only days until former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews makes his return to the United Center for the 1st time since signing with the Winnipeg Jets.
There are now only days remaining until former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews, who won 3 Stanley Cups with the team during his tenure in the Windy City, will play against the Blackhawks for the 1st time as an opponent on Thursday in Winnipeg.
Toews made his return to the NHL by signing a
1-year contract with the Winnipeg Jets, his hometown team, almost two full years after he was told by the Blackhawks that he wasn't going to be brought back.
In fact, Toews hasn't played since April 2023 thanks to symptoms of long Covid along with CIRS.
Fans in Chicago will have to wait several more weeks for him to make his anticipated return to the United Center, as the Jets don't visit until January.
But he'll be back in a Jets sweater in front of the fans that once cheered him, and there will be a video tribute and a chance for him to greet the fans much in the same manner as another iconic former Blackhawks player in
Patrick Kane, now with the hated former divisional foe Detroit Red Wings, did in February of 2024.
Jonathan Toews signed with the Jets in the summer
Toews made his return to the NHL after he made it clear through his agent that he was determined to once again play professionally.
He's looked more and more like his old self after he got a few games under his belt with his new team.
So far this year with the Jets, Toews already has 5 points (2G, 3A).
