The Chicago Blackhawks and coach Jeff Blashill have announced that forward Ilya Mikheyev is day-to-day with an injury, making him the latest name on the list of walking wounded.
The Chicago Blackhawks are already missing gritty forward
Tyler Bertuzzi, who is day-to-day with an injury that he suffered last week.
The Blackhawks have now announced another name has joined Bertuzzi on the injured list, as Jeff Blashill said that forward Ilya Mikheyev is now considered day-to-day with an injury of his own.
The good news is that, per Blashill, at least the injury isn't considered to be serious.
So far this year, Mikheyev has 5 points (3G, 2A) in nine games played.
Ilya Mikheyev is playing in his 2nd year with the Blackhawks
Mikheyev, who was never drafted into the NHL, signed an entry-level contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2019.
He would play the first three years of his NHL career in a Blackhawks sweater before deciding to make a change and sign a 4-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks in the summer of 2022.
His 1st year with the Canucks was cut short by injury issues, as he played in only 46 games.
Last year,
he was traded with
Sam Lafferty and a 2nd round pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft to the Blackhawks for a 4th round pick in the same Draft.
He reached a career-best 20 goals with the Blackhawks last year in 80 games played.
So far in 359 career games with the Maple Leafs, Canucks and Blackhawks, Mikheyev has 170 points (83G, 87A).
He's in the last year of his contract with an AAV (average annual value) of $4,750,000.
