NHL officiating under scrunity in Game 1 of Oilers-Kings series for controversial ruling
The Edmonton Oilers were on the wrong side of controversial officiating in Game 1 1 of their series against the Los Angeles Kings.
In the third period of game one, Oilers defenseman
Jake Walman was called for a delay of game penalty after flipping the puck over the glass, earning him his second penalty of the period.
However, Walman and the Oilers were quite confident and convinced that the puck hit the glass before going out of play, they would then challenge the call on the ice which would result in a lengthy video review from the National Hockey League's situation room in Toronto.
The puck appeared to have redirected off the glass before heading out of play, but NHL officials thought otherwise, handing Edmonton a penalty for a failed coaches challenge and the delay of game call.
According to the NHL rulebook, there must be 'conclusive' evidence to overturn a call, and this is as close as it gets when it comes to a video review:
The puck did appear to change directions and reportedly can also be heard hitting the glass in full speed. Oilers fans were quite unhappy for the game-altering call made by officials, to say the least.
Hundreds of comments poured in, most of which are too profound to show.
Another night of the NHL and their officials being under scrunity.
