Some injury news struck the Chicago Blackhawks organization as two defensemen were retroactively placed in concussion protocol.
However, a new development from the Rockford IceHogs in the American Hockey League suggests that depth is fragile, as two players were placed on injured reserve.
Rockford IceHogs Place Two Players in Concussion Protocol
The team shared additional details: the two players were retroactively placed in protocol. Allan was on October 11, while Korchinski was on the 12.
"Rockford IceHogs Team Physician Dr. Geoff Van Thiel released the following medical updates:
- Defenseman Nolan Allan was placed in concussion protocol retroactive to Oct. 11.
- Defenseman Kevin Korchinski was placed in concussion protocol retroactive to Oct. 12."
The two players have high potential, but considering the strong depth on the blue line, they could both end up being great trade assets.
Korchinski, the Hawks' 7th overall pick in 2022, could become a legitimate top-four NHL defenseman if he follows his development curve:
"If Kevin Korchinski can develop into a top-4 D-man with 35+ point upside and a weapon on the power play, this would be huge. Great pass here. Looks like he is playing with a lot of confidence and not overthinking. Players play their best when they play free."
As for Allan, his status is also concerning, as the player appeared to have injured his shoulder when he left Saturday's game:
