Former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews finally got his 1st point with the Winnipeg Jets and his 1st NHL point since last playing in Chicago in 2023.

Former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews is back in the NHL after signing a 1-year deal with the Winnipeg Jets, his hometown team.
Toews finally got the monkey off his back, scoring his 1st point since he last played with the Blackhawks in 2023 with an assist on teammate Nino Niederreiter's goal in their 5-2 win over the New York Islanders.
Toews would say that he felt he could have scored a few goals himself there, but that he's happy he was able to make a play that resulted in a goal for Winnipeg.
"Felt like I had a few chances to score, too. Hopefully find a way to get that first goal here, too. I think ultimately you just concentrate on making plays, getting around the net, being more confident when the puck comes to you in those dangerous areas. It's a numbers game. Just got to keep creating and find ways to find the back of the net."

It's Toews' only point so far in the opening 3 games of the new season.

Toews said he's still adjusting to life back in the NHL

Toews missed considerable time with the Blackhawks because of symptoms of long Covid and a CIRS diagnosis in 2021.
It's natural that he would still be working to get back up to speed in the NHL, where he hadn't played since 2023.
"Still finding my way a little bit. It takes time to become second nature. And then you have to find your game. You've got to go out there and relax a little bit. The first couple games I felt like I was getting tired late in shifts, because you're just overskating everything and overworking yourself. You'd rather be safe than sorry, and sometimes less is more."

Toews has 884 career points (372G, 512A) in 1,070 career games, 1,067 of which were spent in a Blackhawks sweater.
