Former Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Lucas Carlsson has hit a new career low after being placed on waivers by the San Jose Sharks so soon into the new year.
Not everything works out the way you want it to in the National Hockey League, and a few players found that out firsthand this week by being placed on waivers.
Defensemen Lucas Carlsson and
Jack Thompson are both on waivers from the San Jose Sharks, but for Carlsson, it's a new career low for the former Blackhawks defenseman.
Carlsson had been mostly unavailable for the Sharks because of an injury, but will now have to either hope that he's claimed by another one of the 31 other NHL teams or otherwise will have to continue playing in the AHL.
Lucas Carlsson is a former Blackhawks defenseman
Carlsson started playing in Sweden for Brynas IF and was taken with the 110th overall pick by the Blackhawks.
He then signed a 3-year deal with the Blackhawks, but in 2021, he would be traded to the Florida Panthers with Lucas Wallmark for Brett Connolly,
Riley Stillman, Henrik Borgstrom, and a 7th-round pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
He would play 3 years with the Panthers organization before deciding to head out west and sign a 2-year deal with the Sharks, which is his current contract.
One of the highlights of his career so far was scoring the GWG for San Jose in his 1st game.
He's played in 73 total NHL games and has 15 points (4G, 11A).
The Blackhawks have a chance to bring him back to their organization, but right now, it looks like he'll be continuing his career playing in the minors.
