Blackhawks interim Coach Anders Sorensen has been named as part of the coaching staff of Team Sweden for the next IIHF tournament, not good enough for the real thing after an 8th place finish in the Central Division.
The
Chicago Blackhawks under Interim Coach Anders Sorensen have experienced ebbs and flows.
The majority of the year, we'd see flashes of what the Blackhawks could be if they remained consistent.
But this year they've failed to achieve what was expected of them: competitiveness.
According to
Kyle Davidson Sorensen will be out the door this summer, as he's revealed they are evaluating options for a new head coach.
Now, with a last-place finish in the NHL, Anders Sorensen will be exploring new territory with the IIHF, as he will join the coaching staff of Team Sweden this summer for the World Championships.
Given how well Team Sweden did in the Four Nations Face-Off, Sorensen's brand of hockey will fit in perfectly at the IIHF level.
At the NHL level? There seem to be growing pains.
Sam Hallam announced the hiring of
Sorensen today.
- I am very pleased to welcome Anders Sörensen as part of the World Cup staff. He comes with valuable experience from the NHL and becomes an important addition for us. We are extremely charged with the task of getting the player group together and investing in winning the World Cup gold, says Sam Hallam, the union captain Tre Kronor.
Sorensen will be heading home from May 9th to the 25th in Stockholm, Sweden, to help Tre Kronor win a gold medal in the IIHF World Championships this season.
His hopes of being a successful NHL coach for now have been dashed, and perhaps this could be a small part of redeeming himself in international play at the end of the 2024-2025 season.
The
Blackhawks remain 8th in the Central Division, with a record of 23-46-10.
Could Sorensen exit stage left in July?
