A trade between the Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Maple Leafs has been finalized and there's a clear winner

On Febuary 27th of 2023 the Blackhawks and Maple Leafs completed a trade, involving several assets including conditional draft picks, which have now finally been determined for Chicago.

The trade saw the Chicago Blackhawks send away forward Sam Lafferty and defenseman Jake McCabe while retrieving forward Joey Anderson and Pavel Gogolev, alongside a 2025 first-round pick, which held strict conditions, and a 2026 second-round pick, from the Toronto Maple Leafs organization.

A valuable 2025 first-round pick held a condition that if it were to have fallen into a top-10 draft pick, the pick would then jump to a 2026 first-round selection instead of the current year.

As the Maple Leafs clinched a playoff spot on Wednesday with a win against the Florida Panthers, the Blackhawks, the Blackhawks will officially earn a first round draft selection.

This is another masterclass deal by Kyle Davidson, the general manager of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Jake McCabe has yet to play a full season with the Maple Leafs due to health battles that seem to be consistent.

Sam Lafferty was traded by the Maple Leafs that same season in return for a fifth-round draft selection.

Despite early on criticism caused by trading away fan-favorite three-time Stanley Cup Champion Patrick Kane, he has surely replinshed his repuation over such moves like this one.
