The Chicago Blackhawks have announced a major roster transaction involving a top prospect

Unexpectedly today, April 11, the Rockford Ice Hogs confirmed a transaction regarding the Chicago Blackhawks' defenseman, Ethan Del Mastro, on social media via 'X', revealing the player has been sent down to the organization's AHL team.

The Chicago Blackhawks later unveiled a roster update, announcing the official send-down of Del Mastro.

The 22-year old tallied eight assists in 42 games within the Blackhawks' AHL team this seasons, and appeared in 24 games with the Blackhawks during the 2024/25 NHL season, accumulating 2 goals and 4 assists, totaling 6 points throughout his time with the league.

In conjunction, the IceHogs revealed they have also sent down defenseman, Adam McCormick, to the ECHL to join the Indy Fuel.

McCormick spent 31 games this 2024/25 season with the Indy Fuel, accumulating two goals and 12 assists, totaling 14 points, and appeared in 8 games with the Rockford IceHogs, totaling a whopping zero points.

Despite the uncertainty regarding Del Mastro's send-down, fans can hope the Chicago Blackhawks are making space for a new acquisition.

As Chicago's season is nearing an end, with just a couple of games left in the regular season, the organization is in dire need to prioritize its rebuild, and they have seemingly begun doing that.
