Defenseman involved in Alex DeBrincat trade placed on NHL waivers by the Ottawa Senators
After he was put on waivers by the Senators, defenseman Donovan Sebrango, who was acquired by Ottawa in the Alex DeBrincat trade, has been claimed by the divisional foe Florida Panthers after they lost Dmitry Kulikov underwent surgery.
There was more action on the
NHL waiver wire in recent days, with the Ottawa Senators placing defenseman Donovan Sebrango up for grabs.
It wouldn't be long before he was claimed, as he's now a member of the divisional foe Florida Panthers.
The Panthers hope that at the very least, Sebrango will be able to offset the unfortunate loss of defenseman Dmitry Kulikov, who had to undergo surgery and is expected to miss up to 5 months.
The Panthers have lost defenseman Dmitry Kulikov for 5 months
The Florida Panthers may be the 2x Stanley Cup champions, but they are facing serious issues with their health to start their 2nd straight title defense.
They are going to be without
Matthew Tkachuk for the 1st several months of the season, while they also lost captain
Aleksander Barkov for potentially the entire season after he tore his ACL and MCL during a practice before the season began.
Now, they have lost defenseman Dmitry Kulikov for up to the next 5 months after he underwent surgery.
He was hurt on October 9 after colliding with Philadelphia Flyers forward
Bobby Brink, and was noticeably hurt.
Dmitry is like some of the other players that we have out of the lineup; he is unique in his role. Excellent penalty killer. Physical player in the five, six (spot on defense), but he can skate and close gaps. So, that's the hole (to fill).
The Panthers could turn to either
Uvis Balinskis and
Tobias Bjornfot for Kulikov, and now they have more depth after claiming Sebrango on waivers.
