Two former Blackhawks represent Finland at world championships
With the offseason in full swing, the world championship will begin this week and numerous players from NHL teams will be representing their countries to try to win this tournament. There will be some former Blackhawks representation for the country of Finland as defenseman Olli Maatta and former Blackhawks prospect Ville Pokka will be on the team.
Maatta spent the 2018-2019 season with the Blackhawks and played 65 games, he scored four goals, with 13 assists for 17 points and had twenty penalty minutes.
Throughout his career, he had spent the bulk of it with the Pittsburgh Penguins and had stops with the LA Kings and this year with the Detroit Red Wings. The 28-year-old defenseman always faced several injuries throughout his career which caused him to bounce around from team to team.
Pokka, Ed spent four seasons with the Rockford IceHogs and had decent seasons of 30, 45, 30, 22, and 11 points. During the 2022-2023 season, he played in Europe for the Swedish League.
The World Championships will begin on May 12th and extend till May 28th.
