The Montreal Canadiens had a touching tribute for the late Ken Dryden, who passed away before the season began, before their home opener against the Seattle Kraken last night at Bell Centre.
The hockey world was thrust into mourning in September after it was announced that legendary Montreal Canadiens goaltender Ken Dryden had passed away at 78 following a battle with cancer.
Dryden was one of the best goaltenders in NHL history and in Canadiens history in particular, winning 6 Stanley Cups and 5 Vezina Trophies.
He also won the Calder Trophy as the NHL's best rookie in his 1st year in the league.
Before the Canadiens played the Seattle Kraken at Bell Centre last night in their home opener, there was a special tribute for Dryden that included a special appearance by several of his former teammates, including Pierre Bouchard, Yvan Cournoyer, Rejean Houle, Doug Jarvis, Yvon Lambert, Pierre Mondou, Doug Risebrough, Mario Tremblay, Murray Wilson, and Serge Savard.
A special tribute video was also played on the video board:
Dryden's mask was also laid on top of the net with a spotlight shining on it, and following the video tribute, he received a loud standing ovation from the sellout crowd.
The Canadiens recently beat the Blackhawks in their home opener
The Canadiens had beaten the Blackhawks 3-2 earlier in the week at the United Center, spoiling Chicago's home opener.
