Chicago Blackhawks defensemen Connor Murphy and Seth Jones recently released statements expressing their support for the LGBTQ+ community after the team announced the cancellation of its annual Pride Night. The decision to cancel the event was made due to concerns over Russia's anti-LGBTQ+ propaganda law and the safety of fans attending the game.

In their statements, both Murphy and Jones emphasized their commitment to promoting inclusivity and acceptance within the sport of hockey. Murphy expressed disappointment in the cancellation:

Seth Jones:

Seth Jones on Pride Night: "The jerseys aren't the whole thing. We still have a lot going on during that night. I know there's a lot of foundations...still coming to the game, and [they] were OK with us not wearing the jerseys. We ran it by all of them, I heard."

Connor Murphy:

Murphy: "I hope that people understand we all support them. Whether it's someone in the gay community or someone in any other community...we hope that everyone feels welcome in our arenas and watching us and even a part of the game and wanting to play. That's the big message."

Murphy on Pride Night: "A jersey is a jersey. It's more important that we are supporting the cause as an organization. Whether we're wearing the jersey or not, that's the organization's decision."
