It's every kids young dream to be drafted in the NHL. That's what happened to Russian player Nikita Popugaev who was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the 4th round 98th overall back in 2017.
Except 18 months ago, instead of working hard to continue his dream of being a NHL star, Popugaev decided to quit hockey, burning his equipment in a video and trying to become a social media star thinking he could be more famous.
While he quickly gained popularity due to his antics, like bringing giant snakes into taxis, his Instagram account seemed to top out at 40,000 followers and people lost interest.
That's when the 23 year-old decided to quit social media and try to return to hockey.
Popugaev earning a professional tryout contract with HC Sochi in the KHL and ended up signing a one-year contract and may look at heading to North America to continue his hockey dream if he can earn a contract.
