Former Blackhawks coaching rival possible candidate for Rangers?
Throughout his career, former NHL head coach Mike Babcock has had the word success attached to his name. Many teams have adopted his style of play where his teams would play a heavy puck possession and keep the opponent to the outside with a strong defence.
It was announced earlier this year that Babcock had retired from coaching after spending some time with his hometown University of Saskatchewan as their head coach. It appears now that news is growing that he may become a candidate for the New York Rangers job that just opened after they fired Gerald Gallant.
Babcock held high-profile coaching jobs in the NHL including the Blackhawks rival the Detroit Red Wings, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Mighty Ducks of Anahiem.
He would certainly be an intriguing candidate for a team that holds a high number of profile players that could use his expertise in playing his style of game.
It's also interesting that his contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs just concluded and he is no longer on the hook for the team.
We will need to see if he will re-emerge back into the NHL coaching ranks.
