Per a new report from NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman, the Chicago Blackhawks could be a potential destination for disgruntled Oilers defenseman Troy Stecher.

The Chicago Blackhawks are in 5th place in the Central Division standings after a positive start to the new year under coach Jeff Blashill, who was hired during the summer.
But they may have a chance to add some defensive depth from a team that they were just beaten by in overtime on Saturday.
Per a new report from NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman, the Edmonton Oilers are attempting to find a "soft landing" spot for Stecher.
"They got a lot of players coming back from injury. There's Hyman can come back, Janmark can come back, Regula can come back. One of the names that's definitely going around there is Troy Stecher. He's one of the extra D, and they have a couple of extra right now. Now, it doesn't necessarily have to be Stecher. I think the Oilers have considered a bunch of things, but he is definitely one of the people that's being considered. I've heard there is some interest, and I think the Oilers are trying to find him a soft landing."

Stecher is in the last year of his current contract with an AAV (average annual value) of $787,500.

Troy Stecher Is A Candidate To Be Traded By The Oilers

Stecher was never drafted into the NHL and would play three years at the University of North Dakota.
He then signed a 2-year entry-level contract with the Vancouver Canucks in 2016. He would play there until he wasn't given a qualifying offer and instead signed a 2-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings in 2020.
He's since played for the Los Angeles Kings, Calgary Flames, and Arizona Coyotes.
He was signed by the Oilers in 2023. So far in his career, he has 117 points (22 G, 95 A) in 566 NHL games.
