A Crash Injured Multiple Members of a Women's Championship Hockey Team
As the literal state of hockey, Minnesota has produced many hockey personalities and stars. But there was a tragedy in the state of hockey recently.
What happened, was an unfortunate automobile accident that injured four players from the NCAA Division III championship-winning Gustavus Adolphus women's hockey team.
Yesterday, four women's hockey players for Gustavus were in a car crash, and Jori Jones tragically passed away. Our deepest condolences go out to Jones' family and the Roseville & Gustavus hockey communities. We also ask everyone to keep those who were injured in their thoughts.
Four players were injured in the crash with the minivan, and one player, 19-year-old Jori Jones, lost her life.
A stop sign failed to be obeyed by one of the vehicles involved, according to local media, however no word of what vehicle it was which failed to obey it. The vehicle was carrying 19-year-old Gianna Gasparini, 20-year-old Kayla Bluhm, and 19-year-old Lily K. Mortenson. In addition to the driver of the minivan, all four members of the team were considered non-critical.
We regret to announce the passing of Jori Jones at the age of 19.
Jones was involved in a tragic automobile crash yesterday, which included three of her teammates who were injured in the crash.
She spent this past season with Gustavus Adolphus College, winning the NCAA III championship.
Rest in Peace.
According to the coach, the women were traveling to South Dakota to visit each other and spend time together during the off-season.
