Trade completed between the Blackhawks and Canadiens: Maybe it isn't so bad for Montreal after all
Former Chicago Blackhawks forward Kirby Dach, taken with the 3rd overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, is now playing great hockey with the Montreal Canadiens.
Even though the Chicago Blackhawks made forward Kirby Dach the 3rd overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, he was never able to fully realize his potential wearing a Blackhawks sweater.
They tried pairing him with high-profile players like
Patrick Kane and
Alex DeBrincat, but he was never able to take off offensively.
They then cut their losses
by trading him to the Montreal Canadiens during the 2022 NHL Entry Draft for the 13th overall pick in that same draft along with a 3rd round pick.
In his first year with the Canadiens, he would score a career-high 38 points (14G, 24A).
Right now, he's on a three-game goal-scoring streak, during which he's scored a total of four goals. His most recent goal was against the Utah Mammoth, and afterward he would say that he's just
keeping his focus on the daily process of being physically and mentally prepared to play.
I'm not really focused on end results or goals or anything like that. I'm just focused on my daily process of what I need to do just mentally and physically to be ready to play the game.
The Blackhawks Traded Kirby Dach To The Canadiens In 2022
Dach, the 3rd overall pick by the Blackhawks in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, was playing for the WHL's Saskatoon Blades at the time of his selection.
In his first year in the NHL, he had 23 points (8G, 15A) in 64 games.
So far in the first 281 games he's played with the Blackhawks and Canadiens, Dach has 128 points (48G, 80A).
