Tab Bamford of the CHGO Blackhawks Podcast feels that Mike Sullivan, the recently fired Pittsburgh Penguins Head Coach, is a perfect replacement for Anders Sorensen behind the Blackhawks bench.
Mike Sullivan has been fired by Kyle Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins after a decade behind the bench. He's got the hardware behind his name, two Stanley Cups won with the Pittsburgh Penguins in back-to-back seasons.
His name hitting the unemployment wire should've set off the alarm for
Kyle Davidson, after a failed pursuit of Dave Carle turned up empty-handed.
Mike Sullivan's tenure with the Penguins over the last two seasons may not have been very fruitful, but he still has a lot of experience that a team like the
Blackhawks could use.
He commands a lot of respect in the NHL due to the fact he's played the game of hockey professionally. His 12-year coaching record is impressive: 971-479-311-15, .528 and two Stanley Cups.
He most recently took Team USA to the Four Nations Face-Off championship against Canada as well.
He could very well be the perfect candidate for the next step in the Blackhawks' rebuild.
All GM Kyle Davidson has to do is pick up the phone and talk money and terms.
But more importantly, as Bamford mentions, would Sullivan be on board with a rebuild?
Or would he choose a team like the Boston Bruins (considering he's from Massachusetts), or the New York Rangers, who are closer to winning a cup than the Blackhawks?
We'll never know until Davidson picks up a phone, for now all we can do is speculate, and sprinkle on some hope a better coach arrives.
