League announces suspension for member of the Chicago Blackhawks organization
AJ Spellacy, a Chicago Blackhawks prospect will have to serve a suspension in the OHL against the Erie Otters.
AJ Spellacy is a prototypical power-forward and has found himself a home in the Blackhawks organization.
Spellacy was drafted 72nd overall in the third round of the 2024 NHL Draft and currently plays for the OHL's Windsor Spitfires.
He's known to act aggressively on the ice and models his game after his favorite player, the Washington Capitals' own
Tom Wilson.
Color us surprised, as Spellacy has been suspended by the OHL after a game misconduct and aggressive actions on the ice against the Erie Otters on March 11th.
He'll be suspended from play for two games.
It looks like he's definitely taking to Wilson's style of play, but will he ever get an eight-game suspension? Let's hope not.
This season in 59 games played for the Spitfire's he's scored 33 points (17 goals, 16 assists) and could prove to be useful in the
Blackhawks bottom-six when he turns professional.
For now, he'll have to sit out two games and miss a chance at becoming a better hockey player.
While this doesn't exactly reflect poorly on him in the greater scheme of things, the Blackhawks don't want to see him take bad penalties, especially when he arrives in the AHL.
The issue will become bigger if these kinds of plays happen more often with the IceHogs, and if he does make it to the big club, the Hawks.
Spellacy signed a three-year ELC that pays him $906K AAV and will expire at the end of the 2026-2027 season.
