The Chicago Blackhawks have new blood trickling in, as GM Kyle Davidson has signed power-forward AJ Spellacy to a three-year entry-level contract.
The deal pays the power forward $975K AAV and has been a fixture in the
OHL's Windsor Spitfires lineup for the past few seasons.
Spellacy has played 40 games this season and scored 25 points ( 11 G, 14 A) with 42 PIMs in 2024-2025.
Spellacy has worn the Alternate Captain's patch with the Windsor Spitfires this season and is three assists shy of a career-high of 17 this year.
At the draft, Spellacy said his favorite player was Tom Wilson.,
He won a Bronze Medal with Team USA in the 2024 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup.
Spellacy began his career in sports as a football player and decided to stick with hockey.
While answering a question from a media member on whether he thinks his time playing football has helped him with the physical aspects of hockey and in taking a hit, he let out a big smile, laughed, and said, «Yeah, I definitely think so.»
He left offers from schools in the NCAA to join the OHL instead and pursue a career in professional hockey, and today he has made another step towards reaching his goal, signing with GM Kyle Davidson and the Blackhawks.
A native of Cleveland, OH, Spellacy has compiled 80 points (39G, 41A) in 154 OHL regular-season games with the Spitfires from 2022-25. He tallied OHL career highs in games played (67), goals (21), assists (17) and points (38) with Windsor during the 2023-24 season.
The Blackhawks grow stronger with every new signing this year, and Spellacy could be a game-changer on the team's bottom six.
