Lukas Reichel heading to play with Edmonton Oilers' Leon Draisaitl for a big opportunity at the Olympics

German native Lukas Reichel is going to the Olympics to represent his country and will play alongside Edmonton Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl, hoping to bring Olympic gold to his homeland.
NHL players are returning to play in the Winter Olympics for the 1st time in over a decade, as they'll be playing in the 2026 Milan Olympics. Canada will hope to once again win gold, as they did in 2010 in Vancouver and 2014 in Sochi.
Germany has named the 1st six players who have made their preliminary roster, and one of them is Chicago Blackhawks forward Lukas Reichel, who will play with Edmonton Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl.
"Germany named Leon Draisaitl (Edmonton Oilers), Philipp Grubauer (Seattle Kraken), Lukas Reichel (Chicago Blackhawks), Moritz Seider (Detroit Red Wings), Tim Stützle (Ottawa Senators), and Nico Sturm (Minnesota Wild) as the first six players on their preliminary Olympic roster."
Germany has never won a gold medal in hockey in the Olympics, something that Reichel and Draisaitl will try and change.
Lukas Reichel only has a year left on his contract in Chicago
It's going to be a big year for Reichel with the Blackhawks, who is only under contract for 2025-26.
He can become an RFA after this year, and currently has an AAV (average annual value) of $1.2 million.
Per a report from NHL analyst David Pagnotta of The 4th Period, the Blackhawks have been trying to trade .
"Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson has been engaged in talks with multiple teams about Reichel , who is open to a change of scenery as his opportunities in Chicago have seemed to be dwindling."
Because of his contract status, he'll continue to be involved in trade rumours.
