Former Chicago Blackhawks forward Alex DeBrincat has been linked to the Edmonton Oilers, in what could be a blockbuster trade if Steve Yzerman is bold enough to make a deal.

The Detroit Red Wings are far from a contending team.
As their rebuild marches it, it wouldn't hurt for GM Steve Yzerman to take advantage of veteran assets to acquire draft capital or more prospects in return for forward Alex DeBrincat.
NHL Insider Jesse Courville-Lynch recently linked DeBrincat, a former Chicago Blackhawks fan favorite, to the Edmonton Oilers.

Bowman and DeBrincat Reunite in Edmonton?

It makes sense due to the fact that DeBrincat was originally a Stan Bowman draft pick, 39th overall in the 2nd round of the 2016 NHL Draft.
«The Oilers have shown they aren't scared to make big moves if it means improving their team and being able to make a deep postseason run, which was evident when they acquired Jake Walman before the 2025 Trade Deadline from the San Jose Sharks,» the Hockey Writers scribe explained. «One player who stands out as a potential trade target for the Oilers is superstar forward Alex Debrincat, who has solidified himself as a star in the NHL.»

DeBrincat would offer the Oilers another superstar winger who could provide more than 30 goals a year. Last season he scored 39 goals, marking it the fourth consecutive season in which he's scored 30 or more.
Not only does he have a connection to GM Stan Bowman in Edmonton, but he was once a teammate of Connor McDavid when he played for the Erie Otters in the OHL.
The Red Wings would receive a haul of Beau Akey, Mattias Ekholm, a 2027 1st-round pick, and a 2028 2nd-round pick in return for DeBrincat, a former 2nd-round pick.
Quite a haul for a player of DeBrincat's caliber.
Adding DeBrincat would solidify the Oilers' first line as a legitimate postseason threat in the NHL in 2025-26.
But the question remains, would Detroit say yes?
