The Chicago Blackhawks coaching position remains uncertain as Anders Sorensen may not survive the offseason, but NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman gave us an idea of who will be next in line: the University of Denver's David Carle.

David Carle has been a highly sought-after coaching prospect in the NHL after winning two gold medals with Team USA consecutively in 2024 and 2025. His NCAA titles won in 2022 and 2024 give him a pedigree that developing teams find to be intriguing.
Carle has been a hot topic for Blackhawks fans and NHL Insiders alike, as Elliotte Friedman has mentioned in passing that GM Kyle Davidson will pursue him as a future replacement of Anders Sorensen.
Given his history with Blackhawks prospects and players like Oliver Moore, Sam Rinzel, and Aidan Thompson, he could be a shoe-in for the job.
'He's got the hammer. I think Chicago has, or will, talk to him. I think Philly will too... But he's made it very clear that he's not leaving Denver unless he gets what he wants. I think that's gonna be a big ticket.'

His contract demand for coaching in the NHL isn't too much of an ask, and a first-year NHL coach won't earn much anyway, about $1.2 million starting out.
Friedman detailed what a potential offer for Carle could look like (it's more than $1.2 million):

Given his history as a coach in the NCAA and IIHF, he could be worth the squeeze if David is willing to negotiate.
Carle and St. Louis Blues GM Doug Armstrong discussed numbers last year, and were unable to come to terms due to his demands. This could play out in the Blackhawks' favor if Kyle Davidson decides to hire him.
'I think Carle is going to have to be convinced that there's a reasonable path to winning. I think that one of the things that people are wondering is, 'What is Carle's patience for a rebuild?'

Carle is a winning coach in the NCAA, with an impressive record of 148-62-16 with the University of Denver.
He has two NCAA Championships to his name, and two gold medals as well. Surely this should be a selling point for us all, and the Blackhawks right?
