Connor McDavid predicted to land with the Chicago Blackhawks in latest report

The Edmonton Oilers have now lost in the SCF twice in a row to the Florida Panthers, who denied them the chance of the franchise's 1st championship since the days of Bill Ranford, Mark Messier, and numerous other notable ex-Oilers in 1990.

Now, the attention of Oilers fans is on superstar captain Connor McDavid, who can become the NHL's biggest UFA in history on July 1 next summer.

There is speculation that McDavid could soon sign a short-term contract with the Oilers to continue his career there with a shorter window as a sign to management that they'd better put the best possible team around him, but recent reports reveal that may be the opposite of what happens.

The Blackhawks may not offer the best chance of a title right away, but what they could offer McDavid is a pair of young, talented players to suit up alongside in Connor Bedard and Frank Nazar, the latter of whom was recently signed to a long-term extension as a clear sign of faith in the future from GM Kyle Davidson.

Notable NHL insider of TSN, Pierre LeBrun, revealed in a report last month the Blackhawks would be frontrunners if he tests the open market.

Bedard will need a contract extension of his own before long.

McDavid would enjoy a more elevated level of anonymity in Chicago, which is an Original 6 city with a rich hockey tradition, but unlike Edmonton, there are multiple other professional sports franchises in the city and far more things for locals to spend their leisure time on; the same can't be said of Edmonton, located in northern Alberta.
