The re-signing of defenseman Wyatt Kaiser is already paying off for the Chicago Blackhawks thanks to his early season success, ranking him among the best in the NHL.
The Chicago Blackhawks knew they had potentially something special when they took defenseman Wyatt Kaiser with the 81st overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, and even though they only have a single win so far this year, Kaiser has been a strong positive.
Per a recent net rating ranking among NHL defensemen, Kaiser came in at No. 2 overall behind Brandt Clarke of the Los Angeles Kings and is ahead of Will Borgen of the New York Rangers, Drew Doughty of the Los Angeles Kings, Ivan Provorov of the Columbus Blue Jackets, Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche, Jake Sanderson of the Ottawa Senators, Noah Dobson of the Montreal Canadiens, John Carlson of the Washington Capitals, and Mario Ferraro of the San Jose Sharks.
Chicago's win over the Utah Mammoth was their 1st of the year, and now Kaiser and the Blackhawks will try and move forward with some momentum under new coach Jeff Blashill.
The Blackhawks recently re-signed Wyatt Kaiser to a 2-year contract
The Blackhawks decided to re-sign Kaiser to a 2-year contract with an AAV (average annual value) of $1.7 million.
He said that he was happy to get the deal done and get to work under Blashill, who is known for developing young players.
"I tried to really separate it in business. We both wanted the same goal. They wanted me to play for the Blackhawks. I wanted to play for the Blackhawks. It was just on the business side where they're trying to do their job and we're trying to do our job. It was like you win in overtime a little bit. You wanted to finish the game in the third period, but, hey, we went to overtime and got it done."

So far this year, Kaiser has played in all 4 games but has yet to have his first point.
