The Chicago Blackhawks have provided a vital update on their current head coaching search during an interview held at the 2025 NHL draft lottery at Monday, and things are picking up steam, according to Kyle Davidson.

Kyle Davidson opened up about the Blackhawks' coaching change incoming, which is set to send Anders Sorensen, their current head coach, back to the AHL's Rockford IceHogs.
According to the general manager, he is receiving plenty of interest, stating his phone is blowing up and confirms that the Blackhawks' vacant coaching position is a sought-after job at the moment
"We're looking to check a number of boxes, but ultimately we want someone that's excited about what's going on in Chicago. Based on the reaction in my phone every day, it's an appealing job, and we feel that. But we've got to find the right person."

Kyle Davidson reveals Blackhawks' timeline for acquiring new bench boss

"No real timeline. We're going through the process right now. We're really excited about the people we've gotten to talk to, and will get to talk to. It's not necessarily about timeline, we just want to get this right, and we want to make sure we have all the information to get it right, and that's what we're going through right now."

Who could the next head coach be? Davidson's comments during Monday's interview certainly sounded like Anders Sorensen is still being considered for the full-time position, which may strike many as concerning.
"I think a coach working with younger players, that will be key because we're going to be a younger team moving forward. You saw a peak to that at the end of the season, but I don't necessarily think that has to color what we go out and get.

We're going to talk to a bunch of very qualified candidates that we feel very passionate about. It's going to be determined in that room and in the interviews when if it feels right, how they approach things and if that's the right fit for us.

In the end, we want someone that's going to come in and help these young players that we're very excited about, that we think have a ton of promise. They're going to need someone that's going to allow them to develop and allow them to grow, and through that, grow our status in the win column."
Davidson quickly faced the heat and was called out by many fans for these comments.
While the NHL playoffs aren't yet concluded, the next season is certainly approaching faster than expected.
Just five months away will kick off the start of a new year as well as a hopeful fresh face behind the bench for Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks.
