Chicago Blackhawks prospect Mason West is also a talented quarterback and currently plays for Edina West High School - could he be thinking about a potential career change in course?
The Chicago Blackhawks took forward Mason West with the 29th overall pick in the
2025 NHL Entry Draft, and while he's a talented player at his position, hockey isn't the only sport he plays.
He is also the quarterback at Edina West High School in Minnesota, where he is attempting to help his school win a state championship.
Last year was his junior year, he completed 178 of 244 passes for 2,592 yards, with 37 touchdowns and four interceptions.
West is also committed to play for the NCAA's Michigan State Spartans next year in ice hockey where he hopes to hone in his skills further.
What are the chances that West could choose to play football during his career and abandon hockey?
Mason West Is A Talented Two-Sport Athlete
West is one of the rare athletes who excels at two sports, but figures to be a key part of the Blackhawks rebuild at some point later in his career.
Beyond his imposing frame, West is a fluid skater with effortless extension, and the reach and skill combination to make high-level plays. A natural shooter, he loads his shots from the hip, using upper-body torque and frame transfer to generate power.
Last year, West also played for the USHL's Fargo Force and had nine points (1G, 8A) in 10 games.
