NHL tied-point leader Connor Bedard causing difficulty for Team Canada at upcoming Olympics
Connor Bedard, who is tied for the 2nd most in total points among NHL players, is causing a major problem for Team Canada at the upcoming Olympics.
There was a well-known snub on the
Canadian roster for the 4 Nations Faceoff in February, as Connor Bedard was not included.
Right now, there's nothing he'd love more than to be included in the roster for Canada at the upcoming 2026 Olympics, and he's making a strong case for himself thanks to his good start to the season.
He's tied for second overall in the NHL in points with 22 (8G, 14A) and continues to show Canada why they should have him on the roster in the Olympics.
Per analyst Rob Couch, Bedard is making
as good a case as any as to why he should be on the team.
Bedard and Celebrini are the future, but the future has arrived very early. But just because they lead the NHL in points 15 games into the season, it doesn't mean they are better overall than many of the players on the team. Bedard doesn't have the same defensive prowess as many top Canadian players, but his shot and skill are really shining through this season.
Bedard's career highs, set last season, were 23 goals and 67 points. He is on pace for 43 goals and 120 points right now. Whether that can hold remains to be seen. But his game has picked up over the course of this season and he has more help around him. Team Canada is calling for the 20-year-old Chicago Blackhawks franchise player.
Connor Bedard Still Needs A New Contract
Bedard is in his contract year, and there doesn't appear to be much progress on the side of either Bedard or the Blackhawks on getting a new deal done.
There has been discussion that the reason why is because of the reported length of what the contract would be, and not so much the total money.
Either way, the Blackhawks should figure out a solution quickly.
