Jeff Blashill is the 42nd Head Coach of the Chicago Blackhawks organization. He was hired for his vision of the future. This is after serving as an assistant coach under the Tampa Bay Lightning's Jon Cooper.
During his press conference with the media, he made some striking comments about Connor Bedard and the future, which should excite fans.
He'd keep it brief, but would mention catering to Bedard's strengths, while preaching a culture of accountability. But for Bedard, he feels that he hasn't reached his prime yet and could find another level of play to tap into.
"I think Connor's going to get to another level," Blashill said at his introductory press conference Tuesday, according to NHL.com's Tracey Myers. "I don't think there's any question because like other superstars in this league, he has the drive, the want, to be the very, very best he can be.
Blashill has had two seasons to observe Bedard's skills and abilities, especially when his Tampa Bay Lightning (at the time) faced off against the scrappy Blackhawks organization.
Blashill feels that Bedard is an elite player in the NHL, with his stickhandling and shooting abilities
Bedard and company by no means are contenders, but with two 60-point seasons under his belt, he's still got plenty of room to continue developing.
Could Blashill be the one to help Bedard attain his first 100-point season in the NHL? It's difficult to discern how his record in 2025-2026 will be, but we hope he'll do better than his predecessors.
With the ongoing youth movement, he'll have a chance to develop talent firsthand and give the Blackhawks' youth the help they need to become full-time NHLers.
For now, we'll have to remain patient to see how he'll treat Bedard.
