There was more action on the NHL waiver wire on Tuesday, as a pair of players are now up for grabs and could present an interesting opportunity for the Chicago Blackhawks.
The
NHL waiver wire has been a busy place in recent days, and on Tuesday, another pair of players are up for grabs by any of the other 31 NHL teams.
The Ottawa Senators put defenseman
Donovan Sebrango on waivers, followed by the San Jose Sharks putting forward Egor Afanasyev on waivers.
Sebrango (OTT) & Afanasyev (SJ) on waivers
Would either player be a fit with the Blackhawks, who recently picked up their 1st win of the new year under coach Jeff Blashill?
Now that the Blackhawks have their 1st win of the year, they can try and move forward with some momentum while GM Kyle Davidson will decide if they need additional depth.
The Blackhawks could add depth with a waivers claim
Donovan Sebrango was originally taken by the Detroit Red Wings with the 63rd pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft but was traded to the Senators in 2023 in the
Alex DeBrincat deal.
He played last year with the Belleville Senators in the AHL and had 20 points (8G, 12A).
Afanasyev was taken 45th overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft by the Nashville Predators but was traded in 2024 to the Sharks for
Ozzy Wiesblatt.
Last year, he played in the KHL with CSKA Moscow and had 21 points (7G, 14A) in 53 games.
A claim of either player would represent a low-risk proposition for the Blackhawks to add depth to the American Hockey League with the Rockford IceHogs.
