The Blackhawks break the hearts of the Anaheim ducks
The Chicago Blackhawks have won the draft lottery for the 2023 NHL Entry Draft and will be picking first overall.
Meanwhile, the Anaheim Ducks will have to settle for second place as their chances of acquiring Connor Bedard, a potential franchise center, have once again been dashed, similar to what happened in the early 2000s.
Back in 2005, the Anaheim Ducks had high hopes of being selected first overall until the post-lockout weighted lottery was introduced.
Both times, the Ducks had a terrible finish to the season, only to be leapfrogged by the competition and lose a potential franchise player.
That year, Pittsburgh was fortunate enough to choose superstar Sidney Crosby while the Anaheim Ducks had to settle for Bobby Ryan at second overall.
Although Adam Fantilli is a talented player, I can't help but notice the similarities between the 2023 NHL Draft Lottery and the 2005 NHL Draft Lottery.
