Marc-Andre Fleury won't approve a deal to the Capitals
The Washington Capitals are desperate for goaltending, it's been their biggest weakness all season and an opportunity to acquire a goalie like Marc-Andre Fleury has always been their hope, but it sounds like Fleury has other plans. Washington has been long linked to the former Penguins' netminder. A goalie who has played in multiple Stanley Cup Finals and won Cups as well.
Most of all the Capitals want consistency and that's what Fleury would give them. According to Frank Seravalli from Daily Faceoff, the Caps made a strong push for Fleury, but it doesn't appear Washington is in his plans.
"They want a starting, Stanley Cup-caliber goaltender," Seravalli wrote in his Metropolitan Division "Trade Deadline War Room" piece, adding, "They put on the full-court press for Marc-Andre Fleury, but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen."
The Capitals have had to pull their goalie in two consecutive games, pulling Samsonov against Edmonton for Phoenix Copley, and vice versa against Columbus.
This season through 33 games, Fleury has a record of 14-16-3 with a save percentage of .908 and a 2.93 goals against average. While his numbers aren't great, you have to keep in mind neither are the Blackhawks. Fleury is a proven winner and the type of player many teams are going to covet. With trade protection clause in place Fleury is going to have the pick of the litter as to where he's willing to play and report.
