Lafferty went from top line chicago to not even in TOR lineup
Kyle Dubas recently made a move to bring some toughness to the Toronto Maple Leafs by acquiring Sam Lafferty and Jake McCabe from the Chicago Blackhawks. As part of the trade, Chicago received two picks and prospects Pavel Gogolev and Joey Anderson.
Toronto, on the other hand, gained McCabe (with Chicago retaining 50% of his salary) and Lafferty, as well as two late picks in the 2024 and 2025 drafts - specifically, 4th and 5th-round picks.
Can you tell me what happened to Lafferty? He used to be a first-line player for Chicago, but things changed after he moved to Toronto.
He brought the toughness and depth that Toronto needed to succeed, but unfortunately, he got injured in mid-April. He did return to the lineup shortly after and even played in 5 games against Tampa Bay. However, he was a healthy scratch during Game 6.
It's possible that Keefe's decision to go with 11 forwards and 7 defensemen for the series contributed to his being scratched.
