Kyle Davidson clarifies the Blackhawks' position on Kane.
It's known to happen numerous times in the NHL where a player traded to a team who was contending for a Stanley Cup and with the season done would return to the team he was traded from due to the love of the city, or his family lives there.
There were thoughts around the web, that the Blackhawks would consider discussing A comeback for Patrick Kane to return to the team next season. Kane requested to be traded to the New York Rangers as he felt this was the team that would give him the best chance to win the Stanley Cup this season.
Unfortunately, that did not occur. The Rangers lost in the first round to the New Jersey Devils.
Earlier today General Manager Kyle Davidson made his intentions clear on where the Blackhawks stand regarding Patrick Kane and Toews.
I feel that it's important that the Blackhawks move on from these players, as it's time to usher in a new era now that fans and management know that they will be landing future superstar Connor Bedard.
Is there any chance at all of a reunion with Patrick Kane in free agency?
Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson: "We did make our decision that we're going to move on from Jonathan (Toews) and Patrick."
The Blackhawks have a bevy of draft picks to use to help build their team rather quickly with excellent stars and good role players.
This will also help keep their cap under control and keep the money clear so that they can either acquire unrestricted free agents to help in the short term or keep the cap flexibility they need to sign their future stars in the next few seasons.
The next date circled on their calendar will be June 28th and 29th as this will be the date of the NHL Entry Draft.
