Former Hawks players feel the playoff pain in game five loss.
When the trade deadline came, the word on the street was the Toronto Maple Leafs were coming for Sam Lafferty and Jake McCabe. The maple leafs felt these two players would help them push their team past the first round and well on their way to a Stanley Cup final.
After tonight where the Maple Leafs lost 3-2 in overtime and lost the series in five to the Florida Panthers, those dreams came to a crashing halt.
During the game, Jake McCabe did not have a great game. He has struggled throughout this series where the Maple Leafs may have put him in a position where he was not as successful as he should have been.
As for Sam Lafferty, he sat a few games as he did not produce enough for the Leafs but returned to help improve the teams' speed. This is all a moot point as the Panthers now move on to the Eastern Conference Final to play against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs get to sift through their season yet again and wonder what the team will look like come October.
In my opinion, the Maple Leafs will see significant changes and will be done at the management, coaching staff and their core as it's proven six times over that they cannot win together and change is drastically needed.
