Blackhawks rookie goaltender Jaxson Stauber has been quite the surprise this season since bursting on the scene. Stauber has a 5-1-0 record through his first six games with a 2.81 GAA and .911 save percentage. With Stauber nabbing a comeback win in Dallas on Wednesday night during a primetime game on TNT, he managed to make more history.
Stauber is the 14th goalie in the last 12 years to win at least 5 of his first 6 starts. Stauber joins some impressive goalies who have turned their early successes into great careers, such as Igor Shesterkin, John Gibson, Martin Jones, and Cam Talbot, just to name a few.
While the sample size is small, Stauber is shaping up to be a true contender for the lead goaltender next season as the Blackhawks enter year two of the rebuild. It will be interesting to see if Stauber can keep up the solid play with the potential trades the Blackhawks will most likely make with defensemen such as Jake McCabe.
