Blue Jackets Fans Are FURIOUS After Team Makes This Brutal Trade..
The Columbus Blue Jackets fan base and franchise could not be happier after news broke that Johnny Gaudreau selected their organization to play and sign with the Jackets, but there is always a catch, that being cap space issues for Columbus. The Blue Jackets acquired Gaudreau and signed him to a long term deal of $9.75 million per season, Gaudreau took a large pay cut nearly $15 million total less when he signed in Columbus to help their cap struggles, but that did not help. The Blue Jackets still had to give Patrick Laine a new contract and also have Jacob Voracek which is soaking up a whopping $8.25 million a year for one more season.
The Jackets announced on Friday July 22 that they signed Patrick Laine to a 4-year $8.75 million dollar contract that will last 4 years, that signing put the Jackets in the negative for salary cap by $5 million dollars. Meaning a forward or defenseman who holds that high of a salary had to be moved, and the fan base was in shock when they found out that player ended up being
Oliver Bjorkstrand.
Bjorkstrand is a 27 year old winger who has been with the franchise for a whopping 7 out of 7 years throughout his NHL career and has recently had a break out season tallying up 57 points with a sweet 28 goals. A 27 year old 28 goal scorer coming off a big season from a struggling franchise must have gotten the blue jackets a nice return?
Sadly it was the complete opposite of a great return and Blue Jackets fans are in shock that they received practically nothing, a 3rd and a 4th round pick in next years draft. Sadly the Kraken had to act fast on getting out of the negative cap zone, and Bjorkstrand was the sacrifice.
