The Senators have a plethora of big contracts, including: Chabot, Tkachuk, Norris and Stuetzle and the cap has reportedly not been their friend.
Since bringing in DeBrincat and Giroux, it seems interest in bringing back the latter has increased, meaning the Senators will have little to zero cap space to hand out new contracts, with many players in need of one after this season, including
Artem Zub, a fan favourite, and
Alex DeBrincat.
But to fit all the contracts in under the cap, GM Pierre Dorion will have to show off his skills in making it work.
Elliotte Friedman believes DeBrincat takes priority over defenseman Artem Zub.
Certainly, DeBrincat has that wow factor and sparks the Senators offense with his goalscoring prowess.
But, would the Senators be wrong in opting for the cat over Zub, with such a youthful blueline?
