Per a report from the 2 Mutts Podcast, the Edmonton Oilers are very close to re-signing superstar captain Connor McDavid to a short term contract extension.
One of the major decisions ahead for the Edmonton Oilers is the new contract for superstar captain Connor McDavid, who can become the NHL's most high profile UFA forward perhaps in history next July 1.
Per a report from the 2 Mutts Podcast, the Oilers are close to re-signing McDavid to what would be a shorter term contract extension, and it would be agreed to early next month, prior to the start of training camp.

McDavid recently led the Oilers to their 2nd straight appearance in the SCF, only for them to lose for the 2nd straight time to the Florida Panthers and end the franchise's dream of what would have been their 1st title since 1990.
Connor McDavid didn't sound like he was rushing for a new deal
In the days following their 2nd straight loss in the SCF, the Oilers captain was asked about his contract status and didn't exactly sound like he was in a hurry to sign a new deal.
It's only been a couple of days since the season ended. Take some time to regroup, talk to my agent a little bit and family and all that, and make some decisions whenever that time comes. But there's no rush on anything like that.
Last year, McDavid had 100 points (26G, 74A) in 67 games.
