A multi-game suspension has been announced by the NHL
It is rare for the Department of Player Safety to suspend a player for a long time, unless a player has committed an offense before.
Today, the DOPS announced that
Charlie McAvoy would be suspended after his careless hit on Oliver-Eakman Larsson.
Following an illegal check to OEL's head, McAvoy has been suspended for four games by the DOPS.
As McAvoy used his elbow unnecessarily on Larsson, OEL wasn't even close to the puck.
This will result in the highly-paid defenseman forfeiting $197,916.68 (USD) of his salary for four days.
#NHLBruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy has been suspended for four (4) games for his hit on OEL.
McAvoy forfeit $197,916.68 as a result of his suspension.
The official NHL explanation is linked below:
Boston's Charlie McAvoy has been suspended for four games for an Illegal Check to the Head on Florida's
Oliver Ekman-Larsson.
As these plays now result in harsh penalties, it is clear that the DOPS is operating within a new standard. It seems as though the NHL is trying to end this style of play as much as it can.
