Trade completed between the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks takes turn for the worse
Now, a member of the Edmonton Oilers organization, defenseman Alec Regula may
have a chance at earning a roster spot.
Originally an underrated defenseman, he's seen glimpses of the NHL ice as a call-up for the Boston Bruins and Blackhawks during his professional hockey career, but has never been able to win a full-time job.
Now, he's catching the eyes of fans who expect him to take a shot at the 7th-D spot on the Oilers roster.
Regula is a right-shot defenseman, and he has competition in
Troy Stecher and
Ty Emberson, but it appears that General Manager Stan Bowman is going younger this season.
Alec Regula's NHL Career: Short, but Sweet?
Regula could end up making the Oilers' regular-season lineup and achieve something he's been wanting to do as a Blackhawk.
The former Blackhawks
defenseman has played 22 games in the NHL and could be on the cusp of rejuvenating his career with the Oilers.
A prospect that Kyle Davidson should consider, as he moved
two prospects (Regula, Mitchell) for
two veteran players, of which neither has taken the Blackhawks to the Stanley Cup, and one of which has had arguably one great year in Chicago (Nick Foligno).
It'd be too ironic if the Oilers prospect does end up making the lineup. It'd be another coulda-woulda-shoulda. Just another Kyle Davidson masterclass.
Regula has played 22 games in the NHL and scored 1 point (1 G).
