Two Original 6 rivals, the Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Maple Leafs, have been suggested as potentially being partners for a trade involving Lukas Reichel.
Chicago Blackhawks forward Lukas Reichel has been included
in multiple trade rumours in recent months, especially given that he's only got a year left on his current contract.
Is a deal to a longtime Original 6 foe going to make sense for him?
Per a new report from NHL Trade Rumors, both the Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Rangers make sense for Reichel to be dealt to.
"The Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Rangers have both been mentioned as potential suitors, with each team still weighing depth options up front.
For Toronto, Reichel could provide a low-cost swing as they look to support their core with younger talent. The Rangers, meanwhile, continue to explore ways to balance their lineup behind
Artemi Panarin and
Mika Zibanejad."
Reichel's addition to either team would be an additional boost in depth scoring, something that both teams would welcome.
Lukas Reichel has a year left on his deal, ideal trade acquisition for Toronto
Reichel was taken by the Blackhawks with the 17th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, and has played his entire NHL career in a Chicago sweater.
He's yet to experience playoff hockey, as the Blackhawks are currently in a prolonged playoff drought that has resulted in them getting multiple top-3 picks in the NHL Entry Draft in recent years.
So far in his career, Reichel has 54 points (20G, 34A) in 169 games.
The Trade Deadline this year falls on March 6 this season; if the Blackhawks and Reichel don't agree soon on a new deal soon, he could be traded by then.
