The Chicago Blackhawks have assigned former seventh overall pick Kevin Korchinski to the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL, cutting their training camp roster down to 29 players and 10 defensemen remaining.
Connor Bedard's former roomate and close buddy has been sent to the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs.
"The Chicago Blackhawks today assigned defenseman Kevin Korchinski to Rockford (AHL).
The current training camp roster has 29 players, including 16 forwards, ten defensemen and three goaltenders."
What Kevin Korchinski's AHL assignment means for the Blackhawks and him
Over two weeks ago, our column stated that the recent PTO (professional tryout offer) that the Blackhawks granted to veteran defenseman Matt Grzelcyk would ultimately end Korchinski's time with the Blackhawks. That's exactly the case now in fruition.
Korchinski had to prove it during training camp and preseason games, but has now quickly found himself back in Rockford with the IceHogs, even before the team makes their final set of training cuts.
"Blackhawks have sent Kevin Korchinski down to Rockford. That's an early decision."
