Toronto Maple Leafs acquire 23-year-old underachieving Chicago Blackhawk in proposed trade by NHL insider
A trade between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Chicago Blackhawks involving two promising forwards who could benefit from a fresh start has been proposed.
The Chicago Blackhawks haven't made many changes this summer. Instead, General Manager Kyle Davidson focused on betting on what he had in-house, offering extensions to plenty of young talents.
This confirmed which players they were willing to place their trust in, providing interesting answers about their plans.
However, another player was expected to sign.
Lukas Reichel, who's entering the final year of his contract, has been involved in a lot of trade rumors this summer, and it appears he could indeed leave the team.
Trade Proposal Sends Lukas Reichel To The Toronto Maple Leafs For Nick Robertson
Drafted by the Leafs in 2019, Robertson, 24, had a fresh start when Craig Berube took over the head coaching position, and he is expected to make further strides next season following a 22-point tally in 2024-25.
In a report posted on
The Sporting News, a one-for-one trade between the Leafs and the Hawks was proposed.
It's easy to imagine Robertson thriving in Chicago, with a top-six role alongside either
Connor Bedard or Frank Nazar.
The financial aspect could also be tempting for the Leafs, who would free up over half a million in cap space in the deal. However, considering the offensive depth in Toronto, it's hard to see what would motivate them to get Reichel.
