Jonathan Toews' career began in the United Center, but discussion of a potential comeback has set off controversy as he threw the Blackhawks and Kyle Davidson under the bus
With new of his health improving, after seeking out unconvential methods across the world, Jonathan Toews is a changed man. Discussions of a return to the sport he loves are ongoing, and with a recent feature in GQ magazine, he's making waves.
While we hoped there might be a potential return to the team that drafted him, in a recent interview with The Athletic, the idea was shot down quickly.
I'm not satisfied the way things ended in Chicago. It's not about proving anything. It's just that there's something left in the tank and I want to explore that. I want to go have fun, have a blast, play with passion.
With news that he still has plenty of hockey left to give us, there remains the question of where his goals lie next in the league. His next statement oozed purpose, but had a bit of a bite as he didn't shy away from swiping at his former team.
But at the same time, I still have some high-level hockey left. I want to be able to step away from the game having said that I've given it my all. And I still think there's something left to give.
There's been no official confirmation that he's been in discussion with NHL teams across the league. But rest assured, many NHL GMs would treasure his presence in their locker room, as he could impart meaningful knowledge upon younger players in the lineup.
As of March, Ryan Whitney of Spittin' Chiclets announced that Toews had returned to skating in Arizona, of all places.
Toews return to the NHL would be epic in proportion, as after his health struggles, he's found himself again and could be a key piece in another NHL team's lineup.
Just think if a contending team picks him up, what kind of a storybook ending that would be?
