TheNHL and Gary Bettman did a disservice to the Chicago Blackhawks legends Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith's legacy.
The
NHL left Blackhawks legends Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith off the NHL Quarter Century team.
The two players' legacy was snubbed by Gary Bettman and the NHL as of course, they once again took to ignoring the dynasty from the 2010s.
Instead, players who'd never won a cup at least once were placed on the list, like
Auston Matthews, Henrik Lundqvist, and Roberto Luongo, to name a few.
Both players won three Stanley Cups with the Blackhawks during their careers, before they retired or moved on to greener pastures.
Duncan Keith now works for the Edmonton Oilers in a developmental role for the team. A reliable defenseman who has proven his worth in 1,256 NHL contests.
While Jonathan Toews, a legendary two-way center, at least deserved an honorable mention. Even if
Patrick Kane did make the cut, it ignores other key role players during that time frame like the aforementioned defenseman, and the center who was a linemate of Kane.
Toews played a total of 1,067 NHL games and left the NHL to work on his health in 2023.
Now on the cusp of an eventual return to the ice, it's not unusual to see the NHL snub Toews and Keith.
It'd just be nice if it didn't happen at all, and give them the proper respect they've earned.
Toews' return to the NHL hasn't been confirmed, but he's been exploring the idea while skating again. He will draw interest from contending teams in the league.
