Perry explained that in 2019 he was called to a dinner with his agents and his wife in Toronto to hear the news that the Anaheim Ducks were preparing to buy out his last two years of his eight-year deal. His agents wanted to do the due diligence of letting him know prior to the news getting out but unfortunately that was not the case, and he found out anyway through social media.
The explanation of his buy-out was due to his knee surgery along with his declining play. Perry fields that this move allowed him to prolong his career as he had spent time with the Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens, Tampa Bay Lightning, the Blackhawks and now the Oilers.
Perry has had an illustrious career with a brief stint with the Blackhawks last season. A scandal had broken out with terrible rumors sweeping the globe involving Perry and Blackhawks superstar Connor Bedard. Those were debunked and revealed that the issue was an internal matter that was at a party were Perry acted inappropriately.
His contract was terminated and then he was signed by the Oilers later last year. His numbers speak for themselves as he has played 1311 games, with 429 goals with 476 assists for 905 points along with 1426 penalty minutes. He has won one Stanley Cup with the Ducks in 2007 along with two Olympic gold medals for Canada in 2010 and 2014.
It's clear the 39-year-old intends to finish his career with the Oilers and after going to the Stanley Cup finals yet again last year it sounds like he's ready for another go around in the NHL.
